POLICE have arrested several teens caught hiding inside Berwick homes after an alleged high speed pursuit across the city’s south.
About 9.45pm on Tuesday 9 June, police patrolling Springvale Road in Braeside spotted an allegedly stolen BMW.
Police followed the car for some time, attempting to intercept it at the intersection of Belgrave-Hallam Road and Frawley Road in Hallam before the luxury car collided with the police car.
The driver of the car then reversed and drove off at high speed, according to a police spokesperson.
The vehicle was later spotted at the intersection of Mansfield Street and Clyde Road in Berwick.
Two of the youths were found hiding under the floor of one address and a third youth was found inside another nearby home.
A 16-year-old Edithvale boy, a 16-year-old Patterson Lakes boy and a 15-year-old Patterson Lakes boy were arrested and charged with theft of motor car and bailed by police to appear in court at a later date.
A witness told the Pakenham Gazette she saw heavy police activity in the area about 11.15pm, including police cars with spotlights searching the area.
“I could hear lots of people yelling ‘get down on the ground’,” she recalled.
Police dogs were deployed in search of the youths.
Police alleged one of the youths sustained minor injuries caused by a dog bite.
It is believed the youth kicked the dog, aggravating the attack.
Another two boys remain in custody and are assisting police with their inquiries.
It is unclear when the luxury vehicle was allegedly stolen.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
