GARFIELD GOLF
THE second and final round for the time-honoured Cox Cup was played on Saturday with Tolly Baharis notching up another victory by shooting a 66 nett to go with his first round score of 67 nett – giving Tolly a two-round combined 133.
This resulted in a clear three-shot margin over Darren Stanton whose 136 came from a two-round nett score of 69 and 67. Darren’s recent form is the result of practice and competition – including a trip overseas to Asia. Darren also backed Saturday by winning on Sunday with a score of 39 points off his new handicap of 22.
Dan ‘Ned’ Kelly has also been in great form recently, whether it be singles or team formats, resulting in Dan filling third place on 137 nett over the two rounds.
The best score in for the day was Dean O’Brien who shot a great round of 63 playing off his handicap of 15, resulting in victory in B Grade. Carl Gilbert took the honours in A Grade with a score of 68 nett playing off 12, whilst Darren Stanton won C Grade with a 67.
A field of 51 fronted up on Thursday in the cold, blustery conditions. Richard Murphy took out the first division with 37 points playing off a handicap of seven, while Peter Lazarus continued his great winter form scoring 34 points to win the second division.
With one week to go in the 2015 Ladies Club championships, once again, Leesa Matthews has shot clear of the small field taking huge advantage of a nine-stroke lead into the third and final round this week. If Leesa can maintain her composure and form, a seventh consecutive title looks certain… no pressure though Leesa. Margaret Taylor currently holds the record, being some 12 club titles.
On the pennant scene Garfield came away with two wins and two losses from last week’s matches.
