A RECENT police road safety blitz has seen dozens of dangerous drivers slapped with fines as part of an operation to increase police presence on local roads.
Cardinia Highway Patrol, working together with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), have upped patrols on major roads – namely the Princes Highway, Princes Freeway and South Gippsland Highway in a bid to nab unsafe drivers.
According to Sergeant Allen Inderwisch, 203 road safety offences have been detected as part of the transport safety stint – the majority of which were speeding offences.
“People should be aware that there will be zero tolerance for drivers caught doing the wrong thing,” he said.
The road safety initiative, known as Operation Bunbury, issued 166 speeding offences as well as detected 10 unregistered vehicles, seven vehicles that were deemed not roadworthy and four unlicenced drivers.
Cardinia Highway Patrol are continuing their targeted patrols and urged all road users to respect speed limits and avoid distractions when behind the wheel.
