A NEW $500,000 fire station has opened in Pakenham Upper to replace the brigade’s 70-year-old former facility.
Funded by the CFA’s Rural Fire Stations Program, Minister for Emergency Services Jane Garrett said the new base would give firefighters more room to conduct brigade meetings and to house their vehicles.
The new station includes a new tank which will provide water to the station and be used to refill the tankers.
“The Andrews Labor Government recognises the vital work of firefighters who put their lives on the line to keep the community safe,“ Ms Garrett said.
“Pakenham Upper firefighters do a great job protecting the community and this new station will give them the resources and space they need.
“Victoria’s emergency services provide a vital service and we are committed to giving them the support they need into the future.”
The additional space will also enable the brigade to target new members and grow its member base, she said.
The Pakenham Upper Fire Brigade currently has 27 members who respond to about 50 incidents each year.
