HUNDREDS of new car parking spaces will be introduced to busy train stations in the south-east growth corridor to ease the squeeze for commuters.
The State Government budget will fund 150 extra car spaces at Officer train station and 110 additional car parks at Berwick train station.
The parking bays will be delivered under the government’s $19 million plan to relieve pressure on packed train station car parks across metropolitan and regional Victoria.
Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Daniel Mulino, MP said the additional parks would make it easier for people to drive to the station, catch the train and get to work on time.
“More and more people are catching the train to work, which is putting massive pressure on car parking at Officer station,” he said.
“This critical investment will reduce the daily scramble to get a park and mean more choice for more people in Officer about how they get around.”
Mr Mulino said the government’s focus on small local projects would create big differences to people’s day-to-day lives.
The government also plans to improve bus connections to train stations by introducing more bus routes co-ordinated with peak train services.
