ABBY Nichols of Cockatoo is off to the Pakenham Gazette Oaks Day race meeting this Thursday – in style.
She and nine friends can now experience the Spring Racing Carnival event in the comfort of their own mini-marquee – thanks to the Gazette and the Pakenham Racing Club.
Abby, a relative newcomer to the racing game, won the prize by sharing her story about her favourite Oaks Day experience.
She says she had her first race day outing at Pakenham and, having gone in with moderate expectations, loved the atmosphere.
“Well, I was more than pleasantly surprised,” she wrote.
“Being a horse lover I was surprised at how close I could get to the horses in the mounting yard, but the most amazing thing I found was how thrilling it was watching the horses thundering down the straight to the finish line.
“It gave me goosebumps to be so close and now I really look forward to my race days.”
Well, Abby, you should certainly enjoy your next experience.
