Woman rammed in shopping centre carpark

Police are appealing for dash cam footage after a woman was rammed by a car at Pakenham Central Marketplace carpark on Sunday 29 July.

The 75-year-old Pakenham woman was loading items into her boot just before 3pm on Sunday afternoon when another driver reversed into her, pinning her to the rear of her car.

It’s alleged the offending driver, a 45-year-old Pakenham man, tried to flee the scene before a passerby apprehended him by removing the keys from the vehicle’s ignition.

The victim suffered lacerations to her head and leg and was taken to Dandenong Hospital where she is still being treated for a fractured ankle.

The driver was arrested and taken to Pakenham Police Station where he was interviewed and released pending summons.

Police are still awaiting blood test results to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor to the attempted hit-and-run.

Witnesses to the incident took to social media to praise the actions of individuals on the day.

“There were some real heroes [there]. Including the young man who comforted the lady and the guy who grabbed the keys from the driver… it’s these everyday heroes that need to be thanked,” Rebecca Teague wrote on Facebook.

“This is my beautiful neighbour who was hit. Thank you to whoever that helped her,” Chloe Elizabeth added.

“I was the lady in the other car he hit; I can’t get her image out of my head. I really hope she’s as okay,” another wrote.

Paul Staley of the Cardinia Highway Patrol is asking anyone who has dash cam footage from the incident to make contact on 59452500.
