A young man was arrested and charged following the death of Longwarry crash victim Georgia Larsen on Tuesday 24 July.

Court documents show Joshua Lewis, 18, was on his L-plates when his car veered off Evans Road and crashed into a tree in Longwarry on February 21.

15-year-old Garfield girl Georgia Larsen, who was in the car, was taken to hospital where she later died.

Lewis, of Longwarry, is accused of is accused of driving dangerously and without an experienced driver in the car.

He faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 27 July for a brief hearing and is facing six charges, including dangerous driving causing Georgia’s death and being a learner driver without an experienced driver beside him.

“Today is 153 days since I, my family and all Georgie’s true friends lost her beautiful, caring soul to something that was no accident,” Georgia’s father Shannon Larsen said.

“Finally the process of getting some justice for Georgia’s needless death is underway.”

Georgia’s mum Tracy said the development came as no surprise to the Larsen family.

“We’ve known this has been coming for a while,” Tracy said.

“It’s taken long, long time, and for us it’s been so hard seeing him [the accused] walking around living a normal life after what he did.

“It doesn’t really feel like justice, because nothing is going to bring our Georgie back; only her coming back would truly bring us closure but we know that’s not going to happen.

“While the court process is something we never envisaged going through, we have to make sure we do this for Georgia. The truth will finally be heard.”
