A gold-letter day for Rees

It was a gold-letter day at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday with the prestigious 2021 Medal of Medallist title up for grabs…as well as the February Monthly Medal.

Congratulations go to Glenn Rees, who fired a nett 73 to defeat the other 2021 Monthly Medal winners to take out the top award.

Dean Jones (10) has already booked a place in next year’s Medal of Medallist after carding a fine round of nett 67 to take home the February Monthly Medal and the daily A Grade competition as well.

Runner up in A Grade was Matt Lloyd (8) with a nett 71, while Leon Mateariki (20) won B Grade with a nett 68 from runner up Marcus Cameron (20) on 70.

C Grade winner was the in-form Jarred Bester (27), with nett 71 from runner up Andrew Hale (22) on 72.

Down the lines went to Leigh Cullen, Daniel Behnane, Ron Seamer and Yvonne Smith 71, Colin Maclean, Michael Banger, Warren Arnott and David Bell 72, and to Glenn Rees, Alex Blanck and Nick Hill with scores of 73.

Nearest the Pins: 2nd Hole: Alex Blanck (1.50m). 16th Hole: Bajan Sangah (0.90m).

Monday saw the playing of a Gentsomes event, with Michael Banger (25), Stephen Northcott (18), Rob Nobelius (13) and Gordon Edwards (24) adapting well to the concept by scoring 105 points to earn the win.

Runners up, just one point off the pace, were Yvonne Smith (21), Steven Smith (12), Yvonne Barrot (29) and Keith Barrot (36) on 104 points.

Down the lines went to Patrick Duane, Andrew Liebe, Andrew Hale and Christopher James on 101 points.

The silky-smooth action of Barry Williams (19) proved too good for the competition on Wednesday, scoring 40 points to win A Grade from runner up Noel Bonne (12) on 38.

B Grade winner was Bill McDonald (24) with 40 points from runner up Peter Mackie (26) on 36 points.

Down the lines went to John Wilson and Scott Irwin 37, Rob Nobelius, Andrew Heagney, Levi Sua and John Piggott 36, and Geoff Percival, Pat Ellerton and Philip Mott with 35 points.

The Supercomp Front 9 winner was Noel Bonne (12) with 21 points and nearest the pins went to Harry Bolotin on the second (4.30m) and Stephen Northcott on the 16th (3.00m).

Yvonne Smith (21) is a thoroughly deserving 2021 Medal of Medallist after shooting a one-under par 71 nett on Thursday to win the coveted title.

Round-1 of the Silver Spoon saw Joan Rawson in good form with her nett 71 winning on a countback.

Rawson (48) also won the February Monthly Medal on a countback from Smith.

Down the lines went to Liz Garvey with a 75 nett.

The stableford winner was Bev Clymo (47) with 35 points, with nearest the pin (second shots) going to Leanne Barker on the second (1.38m) and 16th (0.13m).

The golfing week came to a close with Sunday’s stableford competition with Leon Mateariki (18) scoring 40 points to win by three from Alex Blanck (16).

Down the lines went to Heath Barclay with 35 points and to Brian Bateup, Shane Dehaan and Glenn Rees on 34 points.
