DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

Tough, windy conditions made life difficult for most players at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday but one player defied the conditions to stay one step ahead of the pack.

Carol Beard (28) had a sensational round of 44 points – five better than any other player on the course – to run away with a six-shot victory in the C Grade competition.

Terry Bull (26) would have fancied his chances after signing off on a 38-point round…but would have to settle for runner-up in C Grade.

Matt Lloyd (7) was the best of the single-figure markers, scoring 38 points to win A Grade on a countback from Daniel Behnane (12). Ross Maclean (15) also won B Grade via a countback after he and Anthony Franzi (13) returned great rounds of 39 points.

Down the lines were hard earned in the conditions with Duncan Campbell, Chris Kondarios, Theo Van Roy, Patrick Farrell and Gary Clymo scoring 37 points, Bajan Sangah, Marcus Cameron and Peter Reilly 36, with Andrew Heagney, Ben Fitzpatrick, Keith Barrot, Neil Atchison and David Bell coming in with 35 points.

Nearest the Pins: 2nd Hole: Warren Arnott (5.52m) and 16th Hole: Anthony Franzi (0.97m).

Last week’s golf kicked off with a Monday stableford event with Harry Bolotin (15) scoring 41 points to win A Grade from Frankie Chiu (9) on 38 points.

The B Grade winner was Peter Mackie (26) on 40 points, one shot clear of Chris James (32) on 39.

Down the lines went to Graeme Steel 38, John Roberts 37, and to Kay Jones, Kel Trickey, John Piggott, Ben Fitzpatrick and Pat Ellerton on 36 points.

Nearest The Pins: 2nd Hole: Graeme Steel (2.70m) and 16th Hole: Phillip Mott (1.24m).

Wednesday 9 February was a big day for the club with both the February Monthly Medal and 2021 Medal of Medallists being fought for.

Ross Stewart scored a 74 nett to claim the 2021 award while Roger Parker (15) shot a terrific nett 65 to win the February Medal.

Parker (15) won A Grade by a shot from the classy and in-form Barry Williams (18) on 66, while Rod Beard (25) won B Grade with a 65 nett…one clear of Tom Reid (32) on nett 66.

Down the lines went to Terry Bull 67, Royce Thompson and Pat Ellerton 68, Theo Van Roy 69, Murray O’Dwyer, James Dimtsas and Graeme Steel 70 and to Tony Penney, Gordon Edwards and John Curtin with nett 71’s.

Supercomp Back 9 winner was Barry Williams (18) with a 31 nett.

Nearest To Pins: 2nd Hole: Harry Elyasie (1.10m) and 16th Hole: David McMahon (1.50m).

The Ladies hit the course on Thursday for a high-quality stableford event where scoring was absolutely fantastic.

Anne Donovan can kiss her 38 handicap goodbye after scoring 42 points to win the competition by four shots from Yvonne Barrot (29) on 38 points.

Down the lines went to Leah Barker with 36 and to Leanne Barker, Yvonne Smith and Helen Aurish with 35 points.

Nearest to Pins: (Second shots): 2nd Hole: Yvonne Smith (0.12m), 16th Hole: Leah Barker (1.10m).

And golf at Deep Creek concluded this week with a Sunday Par event where Alex Blanck (16) scored 4up to win by three shots from Kougar Lloyd (24) on plus-1.

Down the lines went to Andrew Hale, Brenton Hollingworth and Ben Fitzpatrick on 1up and to Steely Mateariki, Glenn Rees and Shaun Hegarty who all finished square with the card.

Saturday competition this week will be a Stableford event with the ladies also playing stableford in round two of the Summer Cup on Thursday 17 February.
