He’s going once …

PAKENHAM South man Anthony Delaney is Australia’s best young auctioneer.
The 23-year-old won the title at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show last Thursday and is now preparing to represent Australia in Canada’s Calgary Stampede International Auctioneers Competition, to be held in July.
Anthony, nicknamed ‘Pup’ by his colleagues at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange, impressed the judging panel with his clear style and diction.
For his efforts he got his name engraved on the perpetual trophy, the Prosser Cup, and a ‘swag of prize money.’
“All I wanted to do was just be happy with how I went, so it was a real honour to win,” he said.
“I’ll go over to Canada in July for about three weeks.
“Australia only sends one over but I think there are about 40 from America, so there will be a fair few.”
Anthony has worked for Rodwells for about 16 months, after starting his career four years ago with Elders.
He said he learnt the trade from Pat Reddan, Rod Cameron, Peter Brewer, Bernie O’Dea, Rod Potter and Peter Ruaro.
Over the coming months, Anthony will be tweaking his technique to impress the international judges.
“Their style’s a lot different – they sing a lot more over there,” he said.
“But we’ll give it a crack.”
