Seeing green

BE GREEN and be seen at this year’s Pakenham Sustainability Expo on 11–12 June at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.
Cardinia Shire Council is putting on a show for young and old that can’t be missed.
Residents, schools and business operators can learn how to live a more sustainable lifestyle from over 70 exhibitors and 20 guest speakers and workshops.
One exhibitor includes ‘Seed it and Reap’ who specialise in no-dig gardens.
Run by David and Tristan Lane, the company makes raised herb and vegetable beds for backyards which need less water than your average garden.
The beds are filled with a no dig gardening system and seeds can be planted afterwards.
“Many of our competitors use products that are not environmentally friendly whereas we purposely look for and use sustainable products, like cypress pine which is naturally termite resistant,” David said.
“Our garden beds are made from recycled and reclaimed materials, most of which are locally sourced,” Tristan said.
Catch ‘Seed it and Reap’ and all the other exhibitors at the expo from 10am–4pm on both days at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham.
Residents on arrival can also go into the draw to win Fregie sacks, compost bins, Hughie sinks and many other prizes.
The expo’s full program, including a list of exhibitors and guest speakers, is available online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au
