Quick-thinking life-saver

A JOGGER who pulled a three-year-old boy from a lake in Emerald has been praised for his quick-thinking actions to save the toddler’s life.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics have praised the man, who was jogging at the time, after a young boy was found floating in Emerald lake late on Monday evening.
Advanced life support paramedics from Emerald along with intensive care paramedics were called to the park just before 6pm.
Intensive care paramedic Gary Robertson said that the three-year-old boy had disappeared briefly while visiting the park with family.
A frantic search by the boys’ parents was underway when he was found floating in the lake, face down and unresponsive.
“The father jumped in to try and drag him to safety while another man who was running through the park heard the commotion and rushed over to help,” Mr Robertson said.
“The bystander kept a cool head and helped get the boy out of the water.
“He then started CPR, under instruction from the triple zero call taker.
“Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the boy started breathing again and began to cry.”
The boy was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
“There is no question in my mind that the bystander’s quick and effective actions yesterday have been the deciding factors in how this has ended,” Mr Robertson said.
“I have no doubt, if he had not been there, the outcome would have been very different.”
