YARRA VALLEY MOUNTAIN DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE
DIVISION 2 – ROUND 4

EMERALD has continued its sensational start to the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League’s (YVMDFL) Division 2 season with a 61-point win away to Powelltown on Saturday.
The Demons were undefeated ahead of the Round-4 clash but the Bombers destroyed them with a staggering 45 scoring shots, running away big winners 25.20 (170) to 17.7 (109).
Jason Bek’s side led by 15 points at the first change but stretched that to 41 at the main break thanks to an eight-goal second term.
The Bombers then piled on another 13 majors in the second half, with no less than 13 individual goal scorers combining for their 25 goals.
Justin Davis booted his third five-goal haul in four matches and has a total of 17 majors already this season, while Daniel Ferry, Mat Dompietro and Paul White – playing in just his second game in 2015 – all booted three apiece.
Luke McKenna, Nic Jansen, Dale Karacsonyi, and White all starred for the Bombers, which currently sit undefeated atop the Division-2 ladder with a whopping percentage of 225.63. They’ll get another opportunity to extend their run this week when they make the arduous trek to Alexandra.
In stark contrast, meanwhile, Gembrook Cockatoo remains winless from its three games so far after a 46-point loss at home to Seville.
The Brookers started the stronger of the two sides and led by a point at quarter-time. But they struggled to put on any real scoreboard pressure for the rest of the clash and were outscored 85 to 38 over the remaining three terms.
Ricky Delphine led the way for the home side with three goals in a near best-on-ground performance while Sam Martin, Matt Quinn and the super-consistent Riley Wilson all stood tall.
The Brookers will host Powelltown this week.
Meanwhile, Emerald trio Matt Livermore, Luke McKenna and Caillin Porter, along with Gembrook Cockatoo playing-assistant coach Rick Causer, have all been named to the YVMDFL’s initial interleague squad – which will be narrowed down over the coming weeks before taking on the Gippsland League in Drouin on 23 May.
