Origin of Power failure… Flying Hawks

DROUIN stormed back from a 28-point quarter-time deficit to stun Wonthaggi at Sinclair Street on Saturday.
The Power was one of the competition’s form sides heading into Round 7 – sitting second with four wins and a booming percentage.
But the Hawks continued their incredible resurgence under big player-coach Bob McCallum, who was again superb for the side on the weekend.
Drouin’s form is all the more impressive having defeated Morwell in Wonthaggi in the space of two weeks.
The Hawks started off slow on Saturday, kicking just two goals in the first term. They added four in the second but still trailed by four goals at half-time.
But they turned the power out on Wonthaggi in the third – keeping them to just four behinds.
The Hawks capped off their incredible comeback with five goals in the last but Wonthaggi refused to go down without a fight – adding four of their own – in an exciting battle before McCallum’s men prevailed 14.8 (92) to 13.13 (91).
Ben Hughes booted four majors for Drouin and David Olsen three, while Luke Duffy, Daniel Nicholls and Steve Ballingall were superb in support of McCallum.
But in contrast to the Hawks, Warragul’s winless start to season 2015 has continued – going down by 95 points to the Magpies in Sale, 17.19 (121) to 3.8 (26).
The Gulls were kept scoreless in the first term and to just 1.2 in the first half. Trailing by 49 points at that stage, there was no coming back. Tom Carey toiled hard all day for Warragul, kicking three goals, while Tom Axford, Chris Carey and Brad Scalzo also stood tall on a tough day for Steven Kidd’s side.
The Gulls will look for their first win this Saturday when they host Maffra at Western Park, while the Hawks travel to Leongatha to take on the Parrots.
