Screwdriver and scissor car theft spree

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

SCISSORS and screwdrivers have been used to jimmy open a string of locked cars which were stolen within almost a week of each other across Pakenham.
Police are currently investigating the theft of nine cars parked in the Pakenham area over the space of 10 days along with a number of attempted vehicle thefts.
Police believe the thieves are targeting Nissan Pulsars and Nissan Maximas made prior to the year 2000.
The reported incidents, believed to have been carried out by the same people, occurred between Sunday 31 May and Tuesday 9 June.
The incidents took place at:

  • Heritage Boulevard, Pakenham, on 31 May.
  • Serenity Street and Stringybark Circuit, Pakenham, and The Gateway, Berwick, on 1 June.
  • Azalea Avenue and Thwaites Road, Pakenham, on 2 June.
  • Hartland Circuit, Lavender Avenue and Ironbark Circuit, Pakenham, on 9 June.

Police are investigating whether the incidents may be linked to a similar recent series of car thefts in the eastern suburbs.
Drivers who own either Nissan model car are encouraged to secure them in a locked garage or fit them with a club steering lock.
The theft spree is being investigated by the Cardinia Tactical Anti-Crime Team.
Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
