A FREE community roadshow visited students at Kooweerup Primary School last week.
As part of the State Government’s Anzac Centenary program, a roadshow has travelled to communities and schools across the state to educate young Victorians about WWI history.
Kooweerup Primary School principal Nathan Jagoe said Grade 5 and 6 students were joined by some of the KWR Secondary College students to learn about the hardship faced by soldiers during the World War I.
“The roadshow included storytelling, live theatre performances, video, guest speakers and interactive content,” Mr Jagoe said.
“It encouraged students to discover personal connections and inspired them to initiate their own centenary projects.
“The hour-long roadshow presentation dealt with the experiences of World War I including death and injuries, trench humour, anxiety of families at home and first-hand accounts of life at the frontline from the diaries and letters of soldiers and nurses.”
Each attendee took home an Anzac Centenary Commemoration Information Pack containing a brief history of Victoria’s contribution to the war effort, profiles of Victoria Cross recipients and a small token of remembrance.
